Sadly we must bow out of the Agave Neighborhood

Hey Guys,

Its true. We have decided to explore other options. Regrettably Agave is not going to happen for us any time soon, but we still love the idea and want to see it become the awesome neighborhood that we all know it could be. Our decision was partly due to the long wait and presumably longer build time in our future. After much soul searching we have decided that we would rather be in an older house that is closer to work, friends, family and hang-outs as these things have made living in Austin very enjoyable. We wish everyone that is building a house in Agave the best. We will be checking in on all the blogs periodically to see how things are going.

A note about the other options I spoke of: Brooke and I have found a recently renovated house that is perfect for us. It is smaller than Agave, but is in a great central neighborhood with lots of trees and a detached garage. We could not be more thrilled with the way things have worked out and hope to move in very soon.

Thanks to all of the friends and family who shared this experience with us! We hope to see you soon in our new Austin home.

Great News!

I just talked to Julie and it looks like our plans have finally come in! We will be meeting with her this week to give approval so they can start building our house. It has been a long time coming and Brooke and I are so glad to be making progress. I will post any new developments A.S.A.P.

I dont see a light yet, but at least we are getting to enter the tunnel now.

Meeting with Julie

Well Brooke and I could not wait any longer so we scheduled a meeting with Julie last week. The meeting went well. We are still waiting on our plans at this point, but we got a chance to check out our flooring and cabinet material choices. She gave us a binder that explained the process. I am not sure why it is taking so long to get our plans back from the city, but I have heard from other Agavites who have been waiting a long time too. We are half way through the 6 month process and are skeptical of the September move-in date, but we are willing to wait as long as it takes.
I will post again as soon as I hear something.

Thanks for checking in!

Hey all,

Sorry I havent posted lately, there hasnt been much to report. Brooke and I are still waiting patiently to hear from the city. It has been rumored that they are taking longer than usual to approve plans. On the other hand, the "spec" houses that were pre approved are going up at breakneck speed. Every week we visit Agave and there is a new house being framed. As soon as our plans come in things will start to move more quickly.

Thanks for checking in,

Welcome new visitors!

If you can read this, chances are you are one of the recipients of the massive spam that I sent out today. Just to prove that we truely intend to keep this blog up-to-date, I will fill you in on what is happening with the house.

We have reached the end of our month long evaluation period, and have yet to meet with the builder. No worries, I spoke with Julie Ferri yesterday and she assured me that we will be meeting with her, and subsequently the builder in the next couple of weeks. She said that our plans are still with the city awaiting approval. So all we can do is wait.

My sypathy to the other Agavites who are trying to pour their slabs right now. For those of you not in Austin, we had a heck of a gullywasher last night. Lets hope the weather is a little more favorable for building houses in the following months.

Things might be a little slow until we meet with Julie, but check back soon. We should have some color samples and cabinet choices coming down the pipe.

I have started a 3D model showing the front and back of the house. After we meet with the builder, I will make adjustments. Here's what I think it is going to look like:

I realize that this may seem a little obsessive, but Brooke and I are just so excited we don't know what else to do. Check back soon; I will try to post any new developments ASAP.

Plans and Elevations

Here are the floor plans and elevations for our new house in Agave. We signed the contract March 29th, which means that if the builder finishes on time (yeah right!), we will be ready to move in September 29th. Our new address will be 5336 Agatha Circle. The house was designed by F.A.B. ("for a better architecture"). See our "links" section for F.A.B.'s website and other great sites related to Agave.
